I guess they could function as a warning beforehand, and a memorial and way to plug the hole afterwards

Was mainly going for the shrines were put there by the Irktecc as i dunno a warning or marker or summing. The purpose bing to plug up the hole to the colony basically

Never thought about it in religious terms but it makes sense that anything like that which allows a species to avoid extinction would be treated as a gift from a higher power
