origanaly concived as fast, armed courior ship, but the with improved understanding devlopment of FTL comunications it only saw limited use, it is now used for fieldtesting experimental equipment, and where better to test things than a race?

Lupus! good to hear from you buddy, it's wonderfull to see another old friend still alive on spore ;). Anyhow, there is no end date as of yet, but it will go on for at least a couple of weeks; seeing as the contest is a big one :P
