Description
Time: Continued from Reunion. The immortal took a moment to catch his breath, his mind racing. ?Well,? he finally said with a slight stutter, ?Almost immediately after the war ended, the Council came here and demanded the staves. I- I have no idea how they knew about their existence, but they seemed to be looking to destroy them. They also seemed to be very surprised that I remembered what had happened... I guess they tried to erase the war from history, but I couldn?t forget it, for whatever reason.? The immortal trailed off into thought for a few moments, only to be reminded by a firm upward shift of the blade that was pressed to his throat that he had to continue. ?Any- Anyway,? he said a bit shakily, ?I don?t know why, but I couldn?t give the staves up. Something about them was precious and unique? addicting even. I convinced the council that I only had thirty-three staves, while I hid the rest with an energy-suppression vault. I told a good enough lie to convince them that their business with me was done? and so it was.? He thought again for a moment. ?Eventually, however, the staves started to become more of a burden than anything. Knowing that such a great, slumbering power was under my supervision was slowly driving me to the brink of madness. So?? The immortal stopped speaking for quite a while. *I?m quite interested in how this story ends,* the Voice mocked eerily, then adding, *You?re the only one who knows it, Ezzelos.* The blacksmith was now incredibly nervous again, desperately trying to remain calm. ?I- I- I needed to get rid of the staves- some way, somehow. I tried to destroy them, but nothing seemed to work. Melting? crushing? they were impervious to whatever methods I tried to use to erase their burden.? There was a silence for a few moments. *I was hoping this wouldn?t take so long, immortal,* the Voice echoed with an eerie calm. ?Al-alright!? Ezzelos finally managed, ?I gave them to a good friend of mine, an Order agent named Deglon! I told him to do ANYTHING in his power to separate the staves and isolate them to different corners of the universe. That way? NOBODY could ever misuse their power? should they learn of their existence.? The Voice did not respond for quite some time, but then spoke up, as the forge suddenly became even darker and more claustrophobic than before. *Ezzelos,* the Voice said, *that is where you are wrong. You know the truth about the staves. They can be awakened by the Staff of Life at any time if the wielder has the capacity to do so. You know that the Sliverin still live and their power has not faded. You know that for all these zeta-cycles you?ve had to bear the burden of knowledge? of insanity? in knowing that the New Generation will rise!* Ezzelos shook with fear as a green glow started to form in the center of the forge, perforating the darkness.. *Your friend? Deglon,* the Voice said as the glow intensified, *He will suffer a great deal. He will know a pain greater than any other until he reveals the location of the staves. He will suffer because YOU passed the burden of knowledge onto him. He will know that the root of all his pain was because of you.* Ezzelos finally stopped shaking, as his fear turned into a violent rage. ?You?re nothing!? he yelled, ?You?re just a voice! A voice that was defeated a long time ago by its own arrogance!? The Voice immediately let out a chuckle. *You?ll soon find that even a voice can have power, Ezzelos!* he laughed, but was abruptly interrupted by a telepathic message. It was that of another voice? one that had not spoken to the Voice for a long, long time. The darkness in the forge suddenly evaporated, without a word of departure. Ezzelos slowly rose rubbed his head, moaning, unaware of the message the Voice had just heard. *Rot this world, defile its flesh, and corrode their minds!*

Cool chapter. But the Voice will not claim the staves before the Black Plague!
