Description

The Teraus are a resilient race in their own way. In their most basic form, the Teraus are nothing more than carnivorous parasites. What sets them apart from other parasitic organisms is that if attached to a host long enough, living or dead, they can gain control of most of its limbic functions. Despite this unique survival ability, the Teraus suffer from rapid degeneration and cannot stay within the same host before having to find another. Though morbid as it sounds, the longevity of these parasites has little to no limit provided they have a large quantity of hosts. Since their internal connection to a host is limited, they feel no pain from the body in control being maimed, bludgeoned or otherwise damaged, provided the spine is still intact. The Teraus? longevity was put to the test soon after they?d developed space travel. Their ravenous and damaging genetic flaw depleted wildlife and resources on their home world, forcing them to relocate. In the last moments on their dying world, the few remaining Teraus gathered what little wildlife they had left and set out to colonize and repopulate. After hitting a steady populous over approximately seventy solar systems, the Teraus began a scientific study of the flora and fauna on each planet they claimed, in hopes of finding a ?cure? for their rapid deterioration. To supply this venture and provide sustenance, they developed massive cryogenic-stasis compounds for every race of creature they had discovered. Later called the Cryogenesis Experiment, these parasites systematically study and dissect the genetic structure of each ?specimen? hoping each will contain the very trait they long for; living without deterioration. -Pros-- Unrivaled longevity provided there is hosts.- Hard to kill, placement on a host is seemingly random.- Unusually high sensitivity to light, sound, and vibrations. -Cons-- Rapid deterioration.- They severely damage a planet?s ecosystem if colonized long enough.
