Traditionally headhunter's collected their trophy heads for manhood ceremonies or birth celebrations. But tourist's interest in these macabre souvenirs increased the demand for shrunken heads. This was a perfect way for the pirate crew of The Orca to get rid of damning evidence. The process for shrinking the heads was to remove all the skin from the skull and then carefully scrape off any fat from the shin. The eyes and mouth were sewn shut and a round wooden ball would be sewn into the skin to preserve the shape. The stuffed skin would be boiled in a pot of liquid containing tannin until the head had shrunk by about 2/3's of it's original size. Final molding would be accomplished by insertion of hot ashes or sand. The shrunken head would be finished by decorating it with beads and yarn or hair. Often the heads would be mounted on racks for display on a hut wall. Sometimes they were mounted on masks to be worn by a newborn infant.

Awesome idea and nicely done. Thanks for the instructions to shrink heads, sounds macabre, but there are a few people I'd like to try it on. Hehe. Again this is really cool.
