Description

This is the classic (although not the paint job) 1958 Gibson Les Paul designed by Ted McCarty and Les Paul and built in Kalamazoo, MI. This is the most difficult creation I've tackled so far. It was built on three floated and rotated bases (one each for the body, neck, and headstock), and then every individual piece was floated. There are 46 pieces in the red body alone and 88 pieces for the entire guitar. I was able to delete the base for the headstock, but I would've had to float the body and neck too high in order to delete their bases, so I just used them as a background. To all the axemen (and women) out there (especially FritoPie): Unfortunately, I've never owned a Les Paul (but I'd love to!). I used to have a very nice Electra Custom (Les Paul knockoff) with a natural blonde wood finish, but I sold all three of my guitars a few years ago. (I was never very good.) Still, I love the Gibson guitars. (Maybe I'll try doing the SG and the Flying V sometime. To Evil Botanist: The SG would be a serious challenge -- lots of contours!) I live in the Kalamazoo area, so Gibson is well-known here. I also knew Ted McCarty slightly. He used to go to the same church as us and he had my wife and me over one Sunday afternoon a couple of years before he died. He was a very interesting man!
