Description

The ?Axalla? is the pride and spearhead of the Kingdom of Meru?s Royal Space Force, named after a large and majestic bird-like creature from their homeworld. The VX-112 may not be the most technologically advanced fighter craft of the 38th century, but its mere existence is impressive given the reputation of the nation which designed and built it. Most pundits and experts would typically have little faith in the industrial capabilities of a so-called ?developing nation?, particularly those of more traditional peoples like the Meru. But the Axalla starfighter, alongside many recent Meruvian designs, has served to drastically improve the Meru?s image among the galactic community - truly solidifying their status as the ?rising tiger? of the Eastern galactic sector.

The VX-112 itself features a fairly standard frame for its time and is propelled by a single powerful primary engine. Almost all of the VX-112?s components are designed and produced domestically, except for some standardized equipment procured from the GSC for the purpose of logistical streamlining. The ship?s distinctive red appearance is common to almost all Meru spacecraft, and is a result of its unique material composition. The Meru utilize a variant of Tritanium alloy known as Tritanium-R. Tritanium-R is produced domestically by the Meru and has slightly altered characteristics from the mainstream variant of the alloy - most notably its reddish-pink tinge. While the alloy?s formulation is a closely guarded national secret, it is said that Tritanium-R is softer than conventional Tritanium, but is better at withstanding extreme temperature fluctuations.

During the Yeroh War, VX-112 fighters spearheaded the Meru defense against the dreaded Yeroh Stellar Forces. While the older Meruvian VX-100s were handily outclassed by the Yeroh?s YH-12 Hunter fighters, the Axalla was capable enough to put up a fight against not just the Hunters, but also the upgraded Hunter DX. As a result, the Meru were the most effective out of all the nations in the Eastern Sector Cooperative Union (ESCU) in resisting the Yeroh advance. Unfortunately, the complicated geopolitical nature of the ESCU and its staunchly noninterventionist policies meant that the Meru were not able to assist their weaker allies to the best of their ability, leading to unnecessary and avoidable loss of life.
