Description

2nd entry for BlazingStars ice age contest.

Able to withstand the harshest of environments, the Frostbiter mainly inhabits sub zero planets and sometimes even cold regions of a T3 planet. They are very small and light, allowing them to ?ride? on winter winds to get around. The Frostbiter is an ectoparasite, living by feeding on the blood of mammals, birds, reptiles, anything it can find. It has two external nerves as hands which are used to latch on to a host, pierce the skin, and suck up the blood, What makes the Frostbiter unique is the side effects to its hosts. While taking blood, it also feeds back into the host a deadly liquid in place of what it has taken. Once the liquid is in the hosts bloodstream it begins to lower the internal body temperature, and narrow the blood vessels. The longer the parasite is attached, the more ice crystals form in tissue, causing massive damage at a cellular level. In a few hours, the parasite has filled itself and given the host fourth degree frostbite, freezing its cells, muscles, and bones leaving it paralyzed. The only purpose for this is to make sure the parasite can stay attached to the host for as long as needed. The Frostbiter can survive a very long time without blood, but when it really needs it, it will kill for its fill.
