The artillery bombardment was followed quickly by a thousand Zakes and 500 Raibonian aircraft fitted with rockets and bombs attacking. They primarily aimed for Darsimian and Xenophobian fighters, artillery, and AA guns. MIC

It is predicted that nearly 1800 Allied aircraft were destroyed in this part of the battle, along with the majority of the AA emplacements. 438 axis aircraft were lost, the majority from fighters.

As Darsimian and Xenophobian aircraft fell (with an occasional Zake), the Zakes started targetting airports and grounded aircraft too, putting many fighters on the ground out of service and forcing the survivors to stay grounded.
