Even though it is a sound tactic, not every battle can be solved by mass firepower, and this is why this ship was built. It is much smaller than its larger cousin, the FHR-57, and has a much smaller crew base of about 200. The ship is equipped with two twin rail-cannon turrets and dual forward-facing, high-powered battering lasers. It is also equipped with four broadsider battering lasers on each side for hit-and-run engagements. Overall, this ship has much less weaponry that the larger battle-cruisers, but makes up for the loss of firepower with tactical flexibility. It's four prototype P4 Exo-blast engines have a much quicker cooling down rate, and can accelerate much faster than ships with the P3 engines. The problem is that the engines require much more space for coolant systems and many more, fast running navigation computers, that they pretty well fill the ships cargo area, making it redundant as an assault ship. The good thing about the new P4 engines is that the cool down time between warp jumps has been reduced from an 1.5 hours to a shocking 7 mins, allowing it to make devastating hit-and-run attacks against the slow reacting cruisers and battleships; they also allow the 716 can outmanoeuvre most heavy ships and to keep up with the smaller escort ships, yet still provide the armour and shielding of a low grade capitol ship. A commonly used tactic with this ship is to warp jump behind the target ship, use the rail cannons to disable or weaken the rear shields; then it will proceed to destroy the crafts main propulsion and retro systems with it's battering laser, making the ship unable to react to further threats, so then opening it up to bombardment from the larger cruisers. The ship can then help by knocking out or disabling the ship defence systems, and weakening any remaining shields. Because of this and many other situations this ship excels in, it is widely used in many empire's armadas, and can be considered a popular ship.
