Description

Steller's Sea Ape is an unknown mammal recorded by Georg Wilhelm Steller on a lengthy journey across the Pacific Ocean to study plants, animals, and minerals. After the expedition, Steller had recorded numerous animals that have all been confirmed, save for this mysterious creature. It was described as being somewhat small with a fat, hairy body, having a dog-like face, and a shark-like tail. Steller decided that it must have been an aquatic primate. Some believe that Steller's sighting is a case of misidentification, and the "ape" is more likely some sort of pinniped, like a monk seal, or one not yet known to science. Whatever family the Sea Ape belongs to, it is still an intriguing animal of interest today. (Requested by: Trashdog)
