Description

Orobias is just his assumed name, in honor of his mentor. His real name is Elazar, and when he was eight years old his parents were gunned down in a spaceport by a mentally unstable individual. Weapon safety laws have always been somewhat lax in Kamorran society, and the episode caused a brief media frenzy over the safety concerns of guns in public. As these things usually do, the gaffe wound down eventually with no policy changes made and the two civilians killed were all but forgotten, except by Elazar.

To make matters worse, the murderer used a loophole in the justice system's change-of-address policy to get off scott-free. Elazar was too young to know how to properly handle his rage, so it simply got spent on those around him, causing all manner of mischief. He became known as the neighborhood delinquent, Laz. No foster home could handle him and it looked like he was bound to be institutionalized.

Three years after the incident Laz was caught robbing a pharmacy by a retired old mercenary, Orobias. The two must have clicked, as Orobias took the child in and slowly turned him into a restrained, sociable young adult, albeit with a bit of a dark side. Life was good, but soon Orobias's came to an end, his every possession bestowed upon his dependent.

The first thing Laz did was sell the house, load up Orobias's old gear, and track down the one who killed his parents. Thanks to the mercenary wisdom taught by his mentor, it wasn't hard. He walked right up to the door, shot the man in the face, and walked away. It wouldn't bring his parents back, but the burning frustration rotting his stomach was finally gone. Though obligated to investigate the murder, police and witnesses sympathized with the perp and were familiar with the victim's past. The case was soon dropped due to a "lack of evidence."

These days Laz lives as a mercenary, like the one who saved his life. He has developed a split personality, likely caused by the prolonged mental aches of rage and powerlessness in his youth. Normally Elazar is a calm (if mouthy) instrument of precision who can be a little violent at times, but in the end just wants to do the right thing. However, in times of great battlefield stress he switches over to Laz, a bloodthirsty gun-wizard who cannot discern between friend or foe. He feels no pain and is capable of fighting long past normal Kamorran endurance, fed by bloodlust. Laz has been known to suffer wounds that would normally be fatal, only to walk away with a sick grin on his face and a chuckle in his throat.

The personality issue makes most potential clients wary, but Elazar is skilled enough to still find good contracts. The transformation happens instantly and with no outward signs save one. When the tip of his tail start twitching back and forth, most people know to hide behind something.
