Description

Loki and Kerl quickly found their way into the middle of the altar room, where dozens of other cultists were already sitting on their knees. Joining them, Loki spoke to the cultist beside him. ?We?re not late, are we?? The response he got was more friendly than he expected. ?Not at all, brother. You?re just in time to hear our Dark Lord speak.? The hushed murmurs emanating from the crowd dissipated, and the candles all blew out at once, only to re-ignite as a black-robed figure strode into the room. He ?or it- towered above every other cultist in the room, and a harsh orange light emanated from the figure?s hood. Standing at the podium, the figure inhaled sharply before speaking, in a voice like molten iron. ?Ladies? And gentlemen. And mentlegen. I am glad you are here this evening, as the sun sets on the heart of our enemy.? Kerl shivered. What bothered him was not the fact that the Head Cultist saw the Combine as an enemy, it was his voice. It sounded so? Artificial, and not in the Synthetic way. ?First, I?d like to congratulate Miss Stewart on her brand new boy. Everyone say ?daaaaaaw?!? On cue, the crowd ?daaaww?d?, and one figure stood up and thanked her comrades. ?Alright, alright. Now, onto business.? Everyone sat down, and Kerl and Loki listened intentively. ?As I?m sure you all know, the key to our success lies in the Epochs. The Epochs are the absolute pinnacle of genetic and technological perfection. My fellows and I estimate there to be about ten or more Epochs. Upon? Assimilating these Epochs into our grand design, we shall acquire unlimited power. Just one Epoch will give us an edge over the Combine. All of them? They will become our playthings. Now, mentlegen? Tonight marks our ascension, for there are two Epochs in our midst. When our brethren assimilate their flesh and metal and pass it unto you, you will become as gods!? The crowd cheered, and the two cops and their Ops counterparts looked around in confusion. ?Now? Loki G7 and Kerl?Molan!? He pointed directly at them! ?Stand and deliver us to godhood!? The other Cultists stood and faced them, and Kerl stumbled back. Quite suddenly, several Cultists up and ?exploded?, revealing horrible monstrosities of flesh and metal. These new arrivals hissed and glared at the two cops. ?Fleshbags!? Loki cried. The Head laughed. ?Fleshbags? You are quite mistaken. All will be explained soon enough. Now, brothers? Feast upon them, and rise to perfection!? The Fleshbags lunged at Kerl and Loki, and several shots rang out. Many of the cultists drew their own weapons as Jikael rained fire down from above with her staff, and several Cultists dropped on the spot as Micheal pounded them with lead. ?Get away from them you freaks!? Suddenly, the Head Cultist began to laugh, and several dark-red organic tendrils began to sprout from his body. ?Oh, this is too perfect! Not two, but four Epochs grace us with their perfection! All of you dogs? Deliver them to me! Our perfection is at hand!? Suddenly, a loud report rang out and a Fleshbag exploded, followed by another. Several more Cultists ?transformed? in surprise as a few more fell. A familiar figure dropped down in front of the Head Cultist, barring his and the Cultist?s access to the four agents. It was the Mysterious Man! The armored biker walked slowly and defiantly towards the Head. ?I?m afraid I can?t let you do that? Uraghal.? Kerl?s silicon heart leapt into his throat, and Jikael muttered ?Did he just say Uraghal?? The Head roared. ?Nadel! I should have known you?d pry your putrid little nose where you shouldn?t! Bar the exits! All Xadari, focus on Nadel!? Before the man could react, several rounds of explosive ammo poured into him, obscuring him in a cloud of smoke and fire. The Head began to laugh. A dark shape emerged from the smoke, and a new voice snarled, ?Very cute. Now you get to die!?
