Description

After a rather uneventful Cross-Systems flight to Codon, Micheal found himself in the main parking lot of the Thunderdome, where the Outer Rim Weapons Expo was being held. He still didn?t know why he was here, but from the threat level of the assignment he guessed that some terrorist organization planned to steal some top-secret superweapon that was to be revealed that evening. ?Probably the Brotherhood of Quietus Star,? Micheal thought aloud. He hated those nihilistic nutcases. Looking up, Micheal noticed just how lavish the expo was. Archaic military machines hung from the Thunderdome?s ceiling, and the aesthetic nanites had refurbished the interior to look like something of a symphony hall from Old Earth, bathing everything in a gold and dark red hue. Breathtaking. Many of the attendees were in formal Power Armor, so Micheal didn?t feel out of place in his metal uniform. Realizing that he still had no idea what he was doing, Micheal started looking around for his fellow Opsmen until he felt a familiar two-clawed hand on his shoulder. Anybody else would have tensed, but Micheal smiled in recognition. ?How long have you been shadowing me, Zagref?? Micheal turned around and came face to face with his Zytrian super-ninja friend. Zagref was clad in his traditional Zaccynt power armor, but his helmet was under his arm, revealing his insectoid face. Zagref clicked his mandibles. ?Ever since you got off the shuttle. I snuck into the back seat of your rental hover.? Micheal clapped the ninja on the shoulder. ?Same old Zag.? Micheal then lowered his voice to a whisper. ?So? Any idea why we?re here?? Zagref shook his head, his long proboscis swaying. ?I?m as clueless as you are, Mitch. I was interrupted mid-prayer this morning by the Big Guy himself, and was told to meet up with Evelyn here. I haven?t seen the big dog yet, and you?re the first Opsmen I?ve come across.? Micheal nodded. ?Seems strange, doesn?t it? We?re two of the best Opsmen alive, under command of the most efficient field commander in the Ops, and we?re completely blind.? Micheal looked around the room a bit, and suddenly spotted what looked like a Dracchun woman leaning against the marble staircase. Upon closer inspection, he realized that she was a species he had never seen before. She had the general anatomy of a human female, but she was clad in dull-red scales and had a graceful, draconic face and a long, barbed tail. Long, dirty blonde ?hair? hung behind her head, and her expressive eyes conveyed a sour attitude. She was wearing what looked like a red, ceremonial robe. Taking Zagref by the shoulder, Micheal pointed in her direction. ?Hey Zag. Who is that lovely lady?? Zagref saw her, and rolled his many eyes. ?You mean you don?t know? That?s Kasia of Razed, the Ascendant?s lap dog. Don?t tell her I said that, she?ll tear me to pieces.? Micheal?s eyes widened. ?THAT?S Kasia? I?ve worked with her before, but I?ve never seen her outside of her armor. Well, that?s a third Opsmen we know of. Let?s go talk to her, she of all people ought to know something.? "I doubt it, but whatever Mitch." Micheal nodded, and they headed towards the staircase where Kasia was waiting, unaware of the very alien presence that was watching their every move.
