Description
The name Bistahieversor sealeyi was named after where it was found, its name meaning "Bistahi destroyer", and lived in what is now New Mexico. Though relatively primitive, it possessed a deep snout, a feature usually attributed to more advanced tyrannosaurs. In addition, it has 64 teeth, a keel on the lower jaw, a joint near its forehead which would have helped stabilize the skull, as well as an opening above the eye which likely held an air sac, to help reduce the weight of its skull. There was some controversy over what exactly it was, originally being described as an Aublysodon, later suggested as belonging to a new species of Daspletosaurus, and finally being redescribed as a separate genus. It was aptly named "destroyer", being both generally large and robust. It grew up to 30 feet in length and is known from both adult and juvenile specimens.
