Description
The appropriately named Lightning was an astonishingly fast British interceptor, introduced in 1959. With a thrust-to-weight ratio better than 1 at light weights, it was capable of Mach 2.2 and climbs of 50,000+ ft/min. The RAF retired theirs in 1988.
