The wood of the maethrai is called ?tatharlë? or ?stonewood? by the Phaethonti. It is fifty times stronger than steel at half the density and keeps the giant maethrai from collapsing under its own weight. Naturally this ultra-tensile wood is much sought after as a building material. Smuggling maethrai seeds off of Eanath is a lucrative business for those whose allegiance is only to the almighty Sporebuck (such as the Glormm).
It is also a dangerous business, as the Phaethonti consider smuggling maethrai for harvesting tatharlë to be an abomination similar to smuggling children for harvesting their organs.
