Description
The UNSC frigate was the UNSC's most numerous warship in the Human-Covenant War. Although UNSC destroyers were more suited to the rigors of ship-to-ship combat, frigates were lighter, thus more maneuverable, and cheaper to produce, allowing larger numbers of ships to be fielded against superior Covenant ships. Frigates could also function as troop-ships, carrying large contingents of Marines and their equipment and vehicles down to a planet's surface. This particular example is the In Amber Clad, a ship that served with distinction during the First Battle of Earth and the Battle of Installation 05. She was commanded by Commander Miranda Keyes, daughter of the famed Jacob Keyes. The ship was destroyed when the Flood infestation on Installation 05 boarded an undermanned In Amber Clad and used the ship to transport the Gravemind compound intelligence to the Covenant holy city of High Charity, in orbit above 05. The ship executed a pin-point slipspace jump inside the city and glided into one of the towers, which allowed the Flood to pour out and infect the city.
