Gorgonopsids are the world's first Sabertooths. Synapsid reptiles (AKA the mammal like reptiles) predate Dinosaurs by about 20 million years. and are in fact part of the family that gave rise to mammals.

lets see... first dinosaurs were in the carnian stage at 230mya, and Gorgonopsids died in the PTr event at 250mya... so thats only a gap of 20 million years. 250Ma before the dinosaurs was the ordovician period. Kick ass Gorgonops, though!
