The pathetic figure before him didn't look like the sort to strangle a ten-year-old, but then, most killers don't run around with labels announcing their evil hobby. The Warden waved his skeletal hand in dismissal at the murderer's pleas. It had been a long day with two axe murderers, one rapist, and one particularly sadistic babysitter. Not to mention the mandatory 3 hour long sexual harassment training meeting. As if an undead collector of doomed souls needed training in that department. It was all because of that young idiot in accounting always pestering the new secretary. Yes, it had been a long day and he wasn't in the mood to listen to this miserable wretch's lies. "Silence, fool!" He said, his temper flaring for an instant. Then in a calmer, more business-like tone, he continued, "You were observed at 18:34 and 26 seconds, wrapping a cord around the victim's neck. At 18:36 and 31 seconds, the victim's passing of the mortal barrier was recorded - cause of transition - asphyxiation. A level three dispatch was issued with a warrant for your immediate collection. The evidence has been presented to the arbiters and you have been assigned a status of 'Unforgiven'. You will be detained in the Realm of the Accursed until the next Purge upon which, if you have not sought and attained redemption, you will be cast into Hell for eternity." "W-wait!" the pathetic fool cried. "Don't I get a trial?, lawyers?, jury by peers?! Aren't you supposed to read me my rights first?!" The Warden sighed. "You mortals are always so slow to grasp how things work in the afterlife. I'll try to make this simple for you. You committed an unpardonable offense, inciting immediate action from the Beauro. They dispatched a reaper who initiated your transition via a fatal car accident. Now you're dead and you have no rights. Savvy? Good." He switched to his 'warm and reassuring' voice and said, "Now come this way please and we'll get you all settled in." "But! Bu-" "No 'but's, its all been put through the system and can't be argued. If you want to make an appeal, you'll have to take it up with the Appeals Clerk in the Realm office." (Fat chance of that, seeing as the Appeals Clerk was actually just an imp sent to torment the Unforgiven a little in advance.) "Now, just down this hall, across the moat of Wretched Gardeners, and through the Ominous Gates aaaand... we're here!" He whisked his unfortunate charge along at the speed of thought to prevent giving him another chance to argue. But as soon as he arrived back at the office, his secretary handed him another dispatch - a wife beater this time. For the Warden of the Damned, it was going to be a long, tedious day.
