by the time the first generation ship reached the planet they had set out for, they fornd that there was already an incredebly advanced redeyan culture living there. how? after the generation ship set off, faster ships were constructed, and those reached the ew planet two centuries after the generation ship disembarked. now, about ten centuries later, the generation ship has arrived to find that a culture of thier own species, centuries ahead of them was already occuping thier planet. the passangers from the generation ship were treated as heroes at first, but after afew days, they were treated as barbarians with low intelegece, and cast out into the vacume of space to die.
