Radar-Jamming Spy Satellites deployed from space stations became a popular choice for space-faring empires who were far from the center of the Galaxy to explore inward. One empire captured one of these satellites and reverse engineered it discovering it could be redesigned to include a small space station equipped with a superlaser capable of targeting and destroying large areas, called the DS-1 "Sniper" Satellite. Once deployed, its radar jammers let it go unnoticed until right before it's too late. Even peaceful Diplomat empires, because If enough Snipers are deployed, entire planets can be intimidated into surrender without firing on them. However, these can also be used for peace, firing atmospheric tools instead of weapons.
