Often referred to as a dinosaur Dimetrodon is actually a Pelycosaur. An early type of Synapsid reptile. (ancestor of mammals) They roamed the earth during the early Permian period long before any dinosaurs existed.

Yes Edaphosaurus and Dimetrodon are related. both are members of the Synapsida Pelycosauria.
