"Y-You! It w-was you who let the Black Pantheon into Skylithrax! But... WHY?! Our father loved you the most! Why did you do it?!" The young drake's voice trembled as he shrieked at the massive true dragon standing before him in their sanctuary.

Around them lay a gruesome scene: a multitude of corpses?lesser and true dragons alike?were scattered across the ground, their bodies savaged by the claws of a far greater predator. A single tear slid down the lesser dragon's cheek, falling into the growing pool of boiling blood that stained the lush, paradisiacal soil. The very world seemed to twist and groan, as if the plane itself cried out in agony at the violence inflicted upon it.

The silver-tongued betrayer regarded the smaller being with cold, emotionless gaze.

"You lack the perspective that I possess," the larger dragon said, their voice devoid of empathy. "I know what lies at the end of all paths: Terminus?the end of existence?and Origin, the beginning of the next. All of existence is nothing more than a great wheel of repetition, a perpetual cycle of entropy. With every iteration, existence grows more diluted, more meaningless," they intoned, their words as frigid as demise itself. "But I have seen an alternative to that loop?a path where all becomes one?a perfect singularity. For that path to be realized, however, the universe must first be... devoured."

"You're mad," the young drake choked out, horror flickering in his eyes.

"Madness is merely a label for those who lack the capacity to perceive truth," the betrayer replied. "Only the most enlightened minds can endure the sight of reality as it truly is. And with each bite I take of the cosmos, I come closer to seeing the Big Picture in all its glory."

The young drake's trembling form shrank as the betrayer loomed closer.

"Come," the larger dragon invited. "Join me. Become a part of my being, and you too shall witness what lies ahead: a universe with neither beginnings nor ends, where I swallow both dusk and dawn. A universe unified into a single entity, encompassing all that has been, is, and will ever be. This is my solution to Mikhos' Final Problem."

The drake?s survival instincts kicked in as he tried to flee, wings unfurling in a desperate bid for escape. But before he could take to the air, the betrayer's claw lashed out, slamming him to the ground and pinning him there.

"Don?t resist, offspring of Aph?ph," the betrayer hissed. "Join your broodbrothers and sisters within me!"

"N-NO! NOOOOOOO?!"

The young drake's screams ended abruptly, silenced as the Great Traitor's fangs tore through him. And then, silence reigned. The traitor stood alone, the last living being in what had once been a vibrant plane of paradise, now desolated.

"You see it now, don't you?" the betrayer murmured, gazing at the carnage they had wrought. Their lips curled into a faint, self-satisfied smirk. "Of course, I am not the first to attempt this. More than likely, I am not even the first version of myself to try, given how cyclical our universe is. But I will be the first to succeed... For I must. Better that we all become one than naught in Zero State.."

The Great Traitor lowered their gaze to a bloodstained pond, watching their reflection ripple on its crimson surface. "I am your Herald," they whispered, their voice inscrutable, "but I am not your retainer, Thirteenth."
With those words, the betrayer spread their massive wings and ascended into the shattered skies, leaving Skylithrax to the mercy of time.

[This isn?t technically a remake/redesign, as the original Herrscher was accidentally shared when I uploaded the adventure Trembling Terror. Trivia: The original concept for Herrscher was meant to be a "reimagining" of the serpent that convinced Eve to eat the forbidden fruit (you know, from the Bible). However, I ultimately changed my mind and instead based Herrscher on another mythological reptiliform I?ve wanted to include in my lore for ages.]

How Unique is this!

Great to finally see the "true" Herrscher, the great manipulator and devourer of gods. Glad you decided to expand on the original concept, you've really built them up as a super fascinating character. Very interested to see more of them in the future.
